About NewtonDogs

Mission Statement
NewtonDogs is an citizen group advocating responsible dog ownership and seeking reasonable times and places in Newton Parks and open spaces for off leash activities. NewtonDogs also seeks to educate dog owners to be responsible in the use of city parks and to train their dogs to be good dog citizens. NewtonDogs serves as a resource and liaison for the community.

What we are trying to accomplish
A better leash-law that both meets the needs of dog-owners and protects those that do not want to be around off-leash dogs.

Position
NewtonDogs proposes a modification to ordinance Sec. 3-26a(l) that would permit Newton residents to responsibly exercise their dogs off-leash during specified times in designated public areas and open spaces.

What has been done so far
In February 2005 a task force was established by the Board of Aldermen to explore the possibility of designated off-leash times or places. NewtonDogs does not have a seat on this task force, but you can read about the task force at <<History>> for more information.
